The Minto Cup is awarded annually to the champion junior men’s box lacrosse team of Canada originally, the competition was between all-star provincial teams formed by adding players to the provincial champion. In 1960 this practice was abandoned, and the trophy has since been competed for by the Junior A provincial champions of British Columbia of the British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League, Ontario of the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League and recently Alberta, of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Dear Lacrosse Supporters, As you may have heard, the Jr. A Mounties and the Jr. A Raiders are co-hosting the Canadian Lacrosse Association National Minto Cup Jr A Championship in Calgary this summer.  The Minto Committee has been hard at work for months to put together a quality National Championship that will reflect the caliber…

In a close, hard fought series that always came down to a couple goals, the Mounties have fallen short to the Okotoks Raiders. Game five was close all the way to the final buzzer, but the Raiders were able to calm the late push and hold on the win to seal the series. The Mounties…

Game three was the first to be played at home for the Mounties in the Peppardome and was a tight battle the whole way through. The Mounties got behind the eight ball early but then kept themselves within two for the majority of the game. As the see-saw game continued, the Raiders were able to…

#26 Malcolm MacInnes

Malcolm was drafted 1st overall in the 2018 draft out of the Calgary Sabrecats organization. It is rare for a player to jump straight from midget to junior A, but Malcolm is a special player with a special pedigree. He played on the Team Alberta Midget team that won the Canadian national championship in 2017; the first Alberta team to ever win gold at the minor nationals. Malcolm can play the full floor: offence, defence, and transition. It is a big learning curve to go from midget to junior A, but Malcolm is learning a lot and getting better every game. The Mounties are optimistic that Malcolm will continue to develop and become a contributor in the road to the 2018 Minto Cup. Illustrating the promise that the Mounties see in Malcolm is that he was given #26, the first player to wear the number since Dan Taylor (Mounties all-time leading scorer and current pro) graduated in 2014.

Jr. A Mountaineers
July 28, 2017

A slow start combined with a late breakdown led the Mounties to losing game one of the final series. This game had comebacks and excellent goaltending, making it a great one for the fans. Even though the Mounties outshot the Raiders 48 to 38… they still couldn’t seem to bring home that W. The boys…

Mounties take down game three to sweep the SWAT in the best of five series. With the SWAT playing desperate ball, the Mounties were in for a battle. This was great preparation for the boys as they have their work cut out for them against the Raiders in the finals. The first period was all…

The Mounties played the first two games of playoffs against the SWAT and got down to business. Securing both games put the boys in an excellent position going into next weekend and taking a 2-0 series lead in the best of five. Having two solid games of defence, combined with an offensive overload led to…
