Mounties Organizational Structure 2017
From: Jim Feradi, President
Dear Mounties Parents, Players, Staff and Fans,
As you know, the Calgary JrA Mountaineers had their most successful year ever in 2016. Not only did they win their third RMLL JrA title in five years, but they made history at the Minto Cup. They became the first Alberta-based team to beat the BC Champs (Delta Islanders) and Ontario Champs (Orangeville Northmen). They finished the roundrobin with a 2-1 record which was good enough for second place out of four teams. But then lost a heartbreaker semi-final game to Orangeville.
As the team prepares for the 2017 season, we want to build and expand on the success of the 2016 season. Therefore, we are excited to announce some restructuring to the management and coaching staff of the Calgary Mountaineers.
Duane Bratt has accepted the position as General Manager and Director of Player Development. Due to these new responsibilities, Duane will be abandoning his previous role (2011-2016) as Assistant Coach. We thank Duane for all of his contributions thus far and are excited to having him remain with the organization in his new role.
Joe Vetere will remain as Head Coach of the Mountaineers. Joining Joe behind the bench will be two new assistant coaches.
Joel Henry will be the new offensive assistant coach. Joel grew up in Cochrane and played his minor lacrosse with the Rockyview Rage. Joel graduated to junior and the JrB Rockyview Silvertips. Following two seasons with the Silvertips, Joel transferred to the BCJALL and played with the Victoria Shamrocks. In 2008, he helped lead the Shamrocks to the BC title and an appearance in the Minto Cup. Following his junior career, Joel spent four years playing SrA with the Nanaimo Timbermen of the WLA before coming home and joining the Rockyview Knights SrB team. Joel also played in the NLL with the Minnesota Swarm and the Calgary Roughnecks. For the last two years, Joel has been the Head Coach of the Rockyview Silvertips.
Cody Hawkins will be the new defensive assistant coach. Cody was born and raised in North Delta BC, where he played minor lacrosse for the Delta Lacrosse Association. Following his minor career, Cody played 3+ seasons with the Delta Islanders of the BCJALL. In his final year, Cody was named captain of the Islanders and led them to the league finals in 2012. In that same season, he was named defensive player of the year for the BCJALL and a first team all-star. After junior, Cody spent several years with the Coquitlam Adanacs of the WLA before joining the Calgary SrB Mountaineers for the last two seasons. Cody has also spent some time in the NLL, initially being drafted by the Rochester Knighthawks and played with the Calgary Roughnecks in 2014
Sean Wilson will remain in his current role Team Manager and will work closely with Duane to manage day-to-day team operations.
