A slow start was the demise of the Mounties as they fell to their arch rivals the Raiders this Wednesday. Despite a solid comeback, the boys didn’t have that extra one to push the game to overtime.
The first period started out with three unanswered Raiders goals and the boys found themselves in a hole early. Moffat buried one at the half way point of the period to cut the lead to two but the Raiders answered back and took a 4-1 lead into the room.
The second started out like the first with the Raiders opening the scoring with two goals and now the boys had a 6-1 deficit to overcome. Bunio scored shortly after, but then the Mounties allowed the Raiders to pot one more to retain their five-goal lead. Down five the boys rallied back getting three goals from Bunio, Claude and Foster to end the period and now were only down two going into the third! The Mounties had life and were not going to go down without a fight.
The third started with a Raider goal stretching their lead to three, but Bunio scored his third of the night completing the hat-trick, followed by teammate Bot… the boys were only down one with just over 12 minutes to play. Unfortunately, the Raiders scored shortly after taking the two-goal lead and locked down their defence the rest of the third, solidifying a 9-7 win over the Mounties. The boys have a lot of positives to take from the game and will make adjustments accordingly in the rematch against the Raiders in a couple weekends.
This weekend the Mounties play at Stu Peppard arena against the Blues at 8pm. Let’s fill the Pepperdome and show our support for our fellow Mounties as they look to bounce back and get back into the winning column!
