Mounties take down game three to sweep the SWAT in the best of five series. With the SWAT playing desperate ball, the Mounties were in for a battle. This was great preparation for the boys as they have their work cut out for them against the Raiders in the finals.
The first period was all Mounties as they kept their opponents off the scoresheet and put away three of their own. Hughes and Garvey scored early followed by a late one by Bunio to take a 3-0. This is the type of defence the boys have been aiming for all year and are putting all the right pieces together at the right time.
The second period was a much different story. Prysko started off the scoring 1:28 into the first to take a four-goal lead but then the SWAT fought back hard. They were not going to go down without a fight and scored four unanswered tying the game up with ten minutes left in the period. One more goal by each squad left the game at 5’s heading into the room.
Defence has been very important in high pressure situations all year and both squads did a tremendous job of it in the third. We saw great goaltending and team positioning that only allowed Gillis to score to take a 6-5 lead. Unfortunately, the SWAT answered back with seven to play and it looked like we were headed to overtime. With only 26 seconds left on the clock, Henning was able to be the hero and slide one past the keeper deliver a 7-6 victory and solidify the series!
Now the Mounties toughest challenge awaits as they take on the Raiders in the finals. After going 1-4 against the Raiders in the regular season, the Mounties are going into the series with a mission to take down their opponents. The two rivals play back to back at Max Bell arena on Wednesday, July 26 at 7:30 pm and Thursday, July 27 at 8:30 pm. Come watch these teams fight it out for top prize in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League!
