After an 8pm Saturday game, the boys got home very late and had a Sunday matinee game, leading to little rest between weekend games. With such a short rest the boys started a little slow, but with high expectations of our team to perform they came out very strong in the second and third and won at the Peppardome against the Miners! The Sunday win allowed the boys to take home all six possible points this weekend and move closer to that first-place spot.

The first period started very slow, and little offence was to be had by both teams. Mounties started the scoring with three out of the gate but allowed the Miners to score two the rest of the period. Even though the boys did not have a ton of offence they still played well defensively, making sure they took the lead 3-2 into the room.

The second started out excellent for the Mounties with five straight goals! They poured it on, making great passes and taking command of the entire game. After taking the 8-2 lead, the Miners and Mounties both potted a couple more, leaving the period at 10-4 for the good guys.

Once the boys found their rhythm, there was no looking back. The offence was in full force and they scored 6 to start the period, taking an impressive 16-4 lead. They weren’t done yet though, scoring four more and only allowing three the entire period. The defense was just as present as the offence and with the Mounties having the majority of ball possession, it allowed them to dictate the play and finish the game with a 20-7 victory.

Gaining all six available points this weekend was very important because the Mounties play the first place Raiders this upcoming Friday. With a win Friday, that game will allow the Mounties to get within two points of taking over first place. We hope to see you all at Max Bell Arena at 8pm to cheer on your Mounties. It is going to be an excellent battle between the top two teams in the league and will be a ton of fun to watch!
