You couldn’t have asked for a better game Thursday night as both teams fought to extra time. With some late goals, to some quality goal-tending, this game had it all.

Bunio led off the game 15 seconds in to start the scoring and the Mounties were off to the jump they needed. Unfortunately, the Raiders were able to ward off any other offence the Mounties tried to muster. Combining that Raider defence with four unanswered goals, the Raiders headed into the room up 4-1.

Snipes on snipes on snipes were the name of the second as offence exploded from the Mounties. An Early goal by Prysko, followed by back to back goals by Foster and three other contributors led to a total of six goals for the Mounties! Mounties only allowed three goals thanks to come good positional defence and some big saves from their goaltender. With the Mounties outscoring the Raiders 6-3 in the second, the boys headed into the third tied at 7’s.

The third was a tight knit game, played with grit and smart plays because no one wanted to give up a bad goal. Foster completed the hat trick starting the scoring in third, but was followed up with two Raiders goals. The Raiders were up 9-8 with three minutes to play and suddenly Willis potted one with 2:49 to tie the game up and we were headed to OT!

Overtime did not go in the Mounties favor. The extra ten minutes started with three unanswered goals, giving the Raiders a 12-9 lead. Prysko scored with 4:55 left to give the boys some life, but the Raiders followed with one of their own to take a 13-9 lead. As the Mounties pushed more, the Raiders were able to fight them off and sustain a 13-9 victory.

Games 3 and 4 are at home in Stu Peppard Arena this Saturday, July 29 at 3:30 pm and Monday, July 31 at 7:00 pm. Hope to see you all out there cheering on the boys as they look to win both to tie the series up at 2’s.
