In the final episode of the Mounties vs Raiders Battle, the Raiders snuck out the victory. A slow start got the Mounties down early and unfortunately, they did not have enough gas in the tank to come back late. The boys finished 1-4 against the Raiders this season and are the favorite to meet up late in playoffs. Some quick adjustments from management before playoffs are going to give the Mounties the best shot at taking down the Raiders and the Mountie family is positive they can take down their rival if they were to meet late in the playoffs.
The first started out poorly for our Mounties, going scoreless for the first time all season in the first frame. Surprisingly, no goals were scored until 5:30 in the first by the Raiders but then were followed by three quick ones shortly after. Those late goals gave the enemy a 4-0 lead after the first and a large hole for the Mounties to climb out of.
Raiders kicked off the scoring again in the second but the Mounties responded with two of their own from Bunio and Lloyd to get within three. Shortly after the Raiders potted one more with roughly 9 minutes remaining in the period. The rest of the period was handled by both goaltenders making excellent saves to stop every ball sent their way, leaving the Raiders with a 6-2 lead after two.
Offence was the theme of the third and the Mounties jumped out to an excellent start! Three unanswered goals brought the boys within one of the lead. Both teams potted one more each within 48 seconds apart and we had a 7-6 with 12 minutes remaining. A small collapse by the Mounties allowed the Raiders to score four unanswered within four minutes and take a commanding 11-6 lead with roughly six minutes to play. Our Mounties mustered one more goal late, with the final score being 11-7 Raiders. Little mistakes cost the Mounties late, but with some fine tuning, the boys will be poised to head into playoffs with the right mindset and set of tools to take down their competition.
